Lore[edit]

Short summary

Historical events[edit]

Planet Utheri's original society was advanced, but their home planet was unable to provide sufficient nutrients and minerals for further survival, so they needed to relocate, which was opposed by many of the remaining worshipers of the old cult, the followers of [name under retcon].

Pre-exile era[edit]

It was believed that they "surpassed racism", but the truth was much, much more darker and complicated. The less fortunate, who couldn't afford the luxury to move into a larger city due to lack of financial and other means, was forced into hard labor to prevent themselves from starvation. It mostly meant mining and agricultural work, or in some cases, metalworking.

The working class was slowly rising and with the help of kind-hearted patrons, they could raise their own so-called "elite" who spoke up for them to make their situation better.

Shades[edit]

The miners and others who were working in closed spaces started to experience pigmentation issues, and it was becoming another reason for the rest of the population to think less of them. It has lead to a new wave of racism and separation. They received rather harsh treatment, both in their everyday lives and during the long hours of their work.

The voice of the masses[edit]

The situation was becoming more and more tense. The labor unions collectively marched into their nearest city center to demand better treatment, equal education and social rights. They went there unarmed, to prove they came to talk and not to riot and destroy, but promised a second, more violent march if things don't change. The politicians realized they either give in or prepare for war, which - knowing the small amount of their resources - wouldn't have ended well for them, so they reluctantly listened and made a few changes in the laws.

This seemed to be a good solution, for a while. Years went by and the previous tension was somewhat eased. The workers' children finally could afford to get into higher education either by their hard work, or with their parents' financial help.

But the suppressed anger and hate was still present towards the aothés, due to the fact that most of their ancestors were forced to do hard manual labor such as mining and agricultural work, thus being labeled "less intelligent and uncultured".

The exile[edit]

When further life wasn't possible on their home planet, the arguments about leaving quietened. The population seemed to work as one to make it as smooth as possible, but behind the scenes, powerful leaders had been forming dark plots.

 L. Suigerách (name under retcon) - unofficial leader of the "resistance".

After exile[edit]

Mortal legends[edit]

The Whisperer[edit]

Legend says that in every forest lives a creature that tries to unhinge the mind of those who wander alone or fall behind from their group. The entity has no physical form, it's only a voice that makes people experience their darkest fear. It awakens self-doubt and suicidal thoughts, past memories and regrets, repeating them louder and louder each time, driving the person to the brink of madness.

There is no officially acknowledged cure for those, who had encountered with the Whisperer. Most of them commits suicide in a couple of days to finally put an end to their suffering.

Herbalists have certain concoctions to put the victim in a coma-like state, but the chance of survival without serious emotional scarring is low. Most patients beg for death right after coming to their senses, saying that they don't want to go back there, but none of them gave any details of the place they wanted to avoid all costs.

The Lady of the Nangurán forest[edit]

It is believed that a young noble lady was robbed and brutally murdered there a little before her wedding and the forest echoes her screaming and begging as a reminder of the cruelty. Travelers reported that at nights of the full moon some of them saw a young woman in a torn and bloody dress, running away from something or someone, begging fort their help, but they decided to continue their journey.

Others weren't so lucky, those who offered their aid, were never seen again, some of their remains were found years later in the thick of the woods, seemingly they were slained and used for some sort of dark ritual, but not before they were tortured beyond imagination; their limbs twisted, skulls shattered and their ribs broken.

The Shattered Goddess[edit]

(Mountain with two peaks resembling a female chest.) According to the legend, the mountain is what's left of a long forgotten goddess who was turned to stone for treating mortals as her own playthings. The furious masses attacked the statue with whatever they could, breaking it to pieces.

Religion[edit]

Hierarchy[edit]
The Silencers[edit]

Failed amhars and other low-level clergy entrusted with the task of taking care of those, who may know too much.

They are devoted believers, but for some reason, they couldn't become part of the church. These men follow strict rules and live on a special diet, resembling a royal soldiers'.

They wear clothing similar to the amhars, in case anyone would spot them in an inappropriate place and would think of accusing them with blasphemy.

Their origins

The rejected ones tried to create their own order, but the church - fearing they would get too powerful - offered them a deal: if they agree to their terms, they can work for them, wearing a uniform, resembling the amhars'. After a few days of arguing, a pact was sealed.

They received the necessary funds and materials to build their own "temples" to educate the Silencers in exchange of their services.

Conditions: - unmarried - no existing criminal record before joining the order - preferably speaks all four dialects, but minimum two of them - good communication skills, quick thinking, ability to adapt to any given situation or environment - mental and physical stability in order to resist any method of torture

The oil extract is not 100% pure, but still expensive because only a few to know the method of preparation. The oil is also used as cosmetic, and believed to have a calming effect on the nerves.
